FERN GRIFFIN-BANABLE
MY BIO

mandatory, obnoxious picture of me
Hi, I'm Fern, and aside from my somewhat unique name, what truly makes me stand out is my natural creative passion, which stems from a strong foundation of hard work. Throughout my life, I’ve had many interests, from art to horse riding (though I should mention that my experience with riding a Shetland pony ended in a rather memorable fall). A s I got older, my curiosity led me to new pursuits, like my ambitious attempt to become the next Jacqueline Wilson by entering David Walliams' creative writing competitions at 10 (spoiler: no wins there). But, I did win Trowbridge in Bloom's art competition at 12, which I still count as a pretty big deal!
I’ve always had a deep-seated confidence in my ability to tackle things outside my comfort zone. It’s this persistent curiosity that drives me to try new things, knowing that, with determination, I will figure it out—no matter how unfamiliar the terrain.
With A-levels in English Literature, Art, and Law, I may not have had the traditional path toward a media career. But if you need someone with a creative flair and a solid understanding of laws and T&Cs... I’m your person!
When I was 17, like many of us do, I sat myself down and decided it was time to figure out my future. University was the next step, and after much deliberation, I decided on Media—despite never having studied it before. I figured, "How hard can it be?" Well, turns out, very hard. Hard doesn't even begin to cover it. I found myself feeling behind, especially compared to peers who seemed to know editing software like the back of their hand. I had to teach myself how to even turn on a DSLR camera before I could think about filming footage for an assessment due the next month. What seemed impossible became cliché possible.
While my classmates were already comfortable with editing, shooting, and producing content, I had never even seen an editing timeline before. I had no clue about creating content or marketing it across social media platforms. But through grit and determination, I began to teach myself everything I know. I attended seminars and lectures that shaped my professional skills, but it was the trial and error that helped me find my niche in the industry.
By my final year, I had grown into my role. I was using industry-standard editing software, working with clients, and seeing my ideas come to life through content that felt necessary and impactful in the media space. I graduated with a high 2:1 in Creative Media from Bath Spa University, and that’s when I hit a crossroads: What now?
After university, I worked various jobs to support myself, including enrolling in a salon to develop new skills. While there, I helped my employer grow her social media presence by scheduling posts and generating content ideas to boost her reach. But as always, I wanted to push forward and firmly establish myself within the media industry. Whether it’s generating or scheduling content, or being an integral part of a team, I put my all into everything I do. I truly believe the only boundaries that exist are those set by my inner saboteur, and I refuse to let them hold me back.
I’m always eager to learn, grow, and make my mark in the ever-evolving media space—and I’m ready for what’s next.
